Tap's Bug

Posted by Steve Galea at

Here's one of several Tap's bugs I tied. If you like fishing top water for bass with a fly rod, you could do a whole lot worse than using this bug. It's a no frills popper that works like a charm. It was made famous by the renowned outdoors writer, Tap Tapply.  It's a wonderfully simple design that does the job.

The recipe is simple:

Thread: Strong thread 3/0 or Nano-silk

Hook: Bass hook

Tail: Buck tail of appropriate colour

Body: Deer body hair of appropriate colour(s) clipped to shape
