First brook trout trip of the season

On Friday, the water and weather finally started giving us a break and Mac and I got out to visit a great brook trout river we know.  The water was high, so we could not fish all the runs we wanted to. Nor could we fish the remainder as well as we liked, but we still managed to eke out eight nice brook trout, seven of which were between 13 and 17 inches. River bass are best

OK, if you were to judge this bass on size alone, you would not be so impressed. It is 11 inches at best. But, if you were holding the fly rod that I held when this little locomotive struck in the fast water of a local river, you might give this little fellow a whole lot more in the way of respect. The Mustad R-79 NP is the perfect hook for your entry into tying long-shanked streamers and bucktails and particularly Carrie Stevens patterns.
