Last chance brook trout

September is drawing near and with it comes the end of brook trout season where I live. These are the days of fine colour and wonderful cool air. Waters are easier to wade and the general feeling is one of serenity. I'll be heading out to one of my favourite brook trout lakes this week. I'll take fly rod and inflatable pontoon boat. Later, I'll visit a cherished river and make a day of it. This month hunting season begins in earnest. Soon, I'll trade fly rod for bow, rifle and shotgun. Backwoods brook trout adventure

  Last weekend, I took a much needed break and made my way into the back country with a friend. Our goal was to camp, canoe, relax and find a few brook trout. I'm happy to say that we accomplished everything on that list. This little adventure took place on the Haliburton Highlands Water Trails, which sits on the site formerly occupied by the Frost Centre. Our route was fairly simple -- up St. Nora's Lake to the 813 metre portage that took us to Sherbourne. Another 20 minute paddle and we were at our campsite, which we used as a base. Once...
