The brown hackle peacock

Posted by Steve Galea at

This is the brown hackle peacock, an old but proven wet fly. You've got to admit it just looks like something a fish would want to eat -- I mean you can never go wrong with peacock herl and a red tag right? It's also fairly simple to tie.

The recipe is:

Thread: black 6/0 or 8/0

Hook: wet fly size 10 to 16

Tag: red wool (scrounge it from a knitter)

Body: peacock herl ( I use two twisted into rope)

Hackle: brown (I prefer hen)
